Confirmation is the third Sacrament of Initiation in the Roman Catholic Church. Confirmation is the Sacrament in which the baptized are strengthened by the Holy Spirit in order to bear witness to Christ and prepare to take on the role of a disciple. Confirmation is a sacrament in the Catholic Church that completes the grace of Baptism by strengthening the individual with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It deepens their bond with the Church and equips them for a life of discipleship and witness to Christ. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), Confirmation "roots us more deeply in the divine filiation," unites us more firmly to Christ, increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us, and strengthens our bond with the Church (CCC 1303). Through the anointing with sacred chrism and the laying on of hands by the bishop (or a delegated priest), the sacrament bestows a spiritual seal, marking the confirmed person as a witness to Christ in word and action (CCC 1293-1295).
